Project Overview
The UX for Peoria Health project was a semester-long, collaborative class effort aimed at tackling the issue of disproportionate Prostate and Cervical cancer screening rates within specific zip codes of Peoria, IL.
Our Solution
After consulting with the team and seeking input from various experts, the decision was made to divide the Peoria Health project into three key sections. The first involved creating a photo novella that narrates recent cancer survivor stories. The second focused on developing an informative online website containing cancer-related information. Lastly, the team planned to collaborate with local non-profits to distribute the resources generated through the project.
Our Target Audience
The primary target audience for our project was adults aged between 35 and 60 within the specific zip codes identified.
Our initial objective was to create a survivor story photo novella for distribution at events and online viewing. This compilation of stories from survivors aimed to highlight the challenges they faced and overcame. The primary goal was to emphasize that individuals within the community successfully conquered cancer by undergoing early-stage testing. The photo novella was designed for both online accessibility and distribution in physical copies.

Step 2: The Website
The second phase of our strategy involved creating a comprehensive website serving as a central hub for Prostate and Cervical cancer-related information. Users could access reliable content from esteemed global hospitals through direct links. The website also featured a registration link enabling users to sign up for Prostate or Cervical cancer screenings.
Step 3: Community Outreach
The final step in our approach was to collaborate with local non-profit organizations dedicated to serving the Peoria community. Our objective was to inform these organizations about the resources we developed and leverage their existing community relationships to distribute the educational materials we created.
In Conclusion
In conclusion, our holistic approach to addressing the disproportionate rates of Prostate and Cervical cancer screenings in specific Peoria zip codes comprised three pivotal steps. First, we aimed to inspire and inform the community through a survivor story photo novella, showcasing real accounts of triumph over cancer. This narrative served to underscore the importance of early testing and prevention.
The second step involved the creation of an information-rich website, establishing a centralized platform connecting users to reputable global hospitals. This digital resource not only provided comprehensive insights into Prostate and Cervical cancer but also facilitated easy registration for screenings, enhancing accessibility to crucial healthcare services.
Finally, our collaboration with local non-profit organizations added a community-driven dimension to our initiative. By sharing our resources with these organizations, we aimed to leverage their established relationships and community presence for the effective distribution of educational materials. This multifaceted strategy sought to address the screening disparities by promoting awareness, accessibility, and community engagement within the Peoria health landscape.
